QC man shot dead by drunk over last stick of cigarette

A 41-year-old man was killed while another is in critical condition after they were shot by a drunk during an argument over who could buy the last stick of cigarette available in a sari-sari store in Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.

Victim Supremo Manlapaz, of 160 Nawasa Site, Area 5, sustained bullet wounds in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Gaspar Salgado, 49, of 10 Army St., Area 5, Veterans Village, is confined at the Far Eastern University Hospital after being shot in the genitals by suspect Rodel Geronimo, 29, a resident of 45 Panopio St., Nawasa Site.

Geronimo escaped and is at large.

Police said that Manlapaz was shot at about 11:45 p.m. after he beat a drunken Geronimo in buying the last stick of cigarette sold by a store near their home in Karingal street, Area 5, Nawasa Site, Pasong Tamo.

Geronimo, in a drunken slur, allegedly demanded that Manlapaz hand over the cigarette but the victim refused. The suspect then pulled out a handgun of unknown caliber and shot Manlapaz in the different parts of the body. – Matthew Estabillo
