June 24, 2002 | 12:00am
Two Marikina City policemen are being hunted for abducting and mauling two young men in Pasig City over the weekend.
Chief Inspector Tomasito Clet, chief of the Pasig City police investigation division, identified the suspects as a certain Inspector Tolentino and PO3 Arnel Mendoza.
Tolentino and Mendoza, who were listed as absent without official leave (AWOL), were positively identified by victims Andrew Torremania, 23, and Roel Ecal, 25, as the ones who forcibly dragged them from the house of Roderick Penullar at 109 Masagana St., Barangay Santolan last Saturday.
The suspects brought Torremania and Ecal to the house of a certain Jayson Clarrets where they were mauled by the policemen. The policemen also took their personal belongings, the victims said.
Clet said the trouble of the victims could have been sparked by the estafa case filed by Ecals relative Georgina, against the wife of PO2 Victor Catu Jr., also a Marikina City policeman also residing in Barangay Santolan.
Catu was brought in for questioning but he vehemently denied that he was the brains behind the abduction and mauling. He was released later after he promised to cooperate in the investigation.
During follow-up operations, Clet arrested Penullar and recovered from his possession a live bullet and a Kawasaki motorcycle. He will be charged with illegal detention, Clet said. Non Alquitran
