Man burned to death

A 25-year-old man was burned to death while two others were hurt in a 30-minute fire that destroyed a furniture factory early yesterday morning in Caloocan City.

Caloocan City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Agapito Nacario said the charred body of Allan Cantos was recovered in the ruins of Jojo’s Furniture on Kapanalig Street, C-3 Road, Barangay 28. Treated at a nearby hospital for first-degree burns were Antonio Sineneng, 25, and Zaldy Portil, 29, both factory workers.

Nacario said the blaze was first noticed at the back of the factory at around 5:05 a.m. Police gathered that the area was a storage facility for finished furniture products and highly combustible chemicals like thinner, varnish and paint as well as lumber.

Probers said the fire also destroyed four delivery vans. Damage to property was placed at around P3 million, Nacario said. Nacario said the blaze could have been triggered by an unattended lighted mosquito coil used by stay-in employees of the factory. – Jerry Botial
