Man murdered for brod’s drugs racket

A 27-year-old man from Taguig paid dearly for his elder brother’s alleged involvement in a "drugs mafia."

Police said Jeffrey Umanito was shot four times in the nape at close range, killing him on the spot Thursday afternoon.

Inspector Ver Pagatama, Station Investigation Division (SID) chief, said the incident happened at around 2 p.m. at the corner of Lower Bicutan and Signal Village.

Umanito, of Ilang-Ilang Street, Signal Village, was standing at the corner when the gunman approached him from behind and shot him repeatedly with a .9 mm pistol.

Pagtama said investigation revealed that the victim’s brother known as "Boxer" is a drug pusher in the area.

He said the gunman could have been looking for "Boxer" but after failing to find him, vented his ire on the victim.

Recovered from the crime scene were five spent shells, two deformed slugs, and two sachets of shabu.

Meanwhile, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay has asked the City Prosecutor’s Office to pursue the assault charge filed by a member of the city’s Department of Public Safety (MAPSA) against a motorist.

The MAPSA traffic enforcer was identified as Generoso Villacampa, 31, assigned along Jupiter street in Makati.

It was revealed that the incident took place last Tuesday when Villacampa and his companions towed a Nissan Vanette that was illegally parked along Jupiter street

Upon reaching the entrance of the MAPSA’s impounding area, two men identified as Raul Bernabe Santiago and Robert del Corro, blocked their path and told them to alight from the tow truck.

As soon as Villacampa got off the truck, he was slapped by Del Corro with a thick envelope. Villacampa caught up with Del Corro and the two engaged in a fistfight.

At this point Santiago, who introduced himself as a policeman, interfered in the fight by pulling out his caliber .45 pistol and pistol-whipped Villacampa .

Not satisfied, Santiago fired a shot supposedly to pacify the two combatants.

The report indicated that Del Corro fled from the scene on foot, leaving behind his companion Santiago. "I will support Villacampa until this case is solved to teach rude motorists in the city a lesson in the discipline and obedience to law," Binay said. – Nikko Dizon and Marvin Sy
