Former Makati City Vice Mayor Arturo "Toro" Yabut died Tuesday night of cirrhosis of the liver.
Yabut, who was turning 40 this November, was declared dead at around 7 p.m. while being treated at the Makati Medical Center (MMC).
A son of long time Makati Mayor Nemesio Yabut, Toro first became vice-mayor in 1992 as the running mate of Roberto Brilliantes who lost to incumbent Mayor Jejomar Binay.
In 1995, Yabut joined hands with Binay as his running mate in the local elections and won his second term as vice mayor.
The old political rivalry resurfaced in 1998, when Yabut went up against Binays wife Dr. Elenita for mayor and lost.
Already out of the political scene, Yabut once again joined hands with Binay in 2001 as his campaign manager. Marvin Sy
