SB to act on complaints vs sex shows

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte is set to create a team of police and local government officials to curb the proliferation of nightspots offering nude or live sex shows in the city.
Acting on numerous complaints, Belmonte said the composite team will be headed by the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) and the Central Police District (CPD), to carry out measures to finally put an end to this long-standing problem of the city.
"I have already asked BPLO head Pacifico Maghacot and CPD director Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Tor to meet with concerned city officials to iron out details for the formation of the group and come up with plans and strategies that would make this move successful," Belmonte said.
According to the mayor, the primary task of the composite team would be to conduct raids on suspected nightclubs showing bold and live sex shows.
Nightspots in Quezon City mushroomed after the so-called red light district of Manila, Ermita, was cleaned out by a crusading mayor. Many nightspots can be seen around Cubao, and on Commonwealth and Quezon Avenues.
However, Belmonte said he would first conduct a dialogue with the owners of the nightclubs to encourage them to do away with offering nude or live sex shows.
The dialogue, he added, would also inform the owners of the parameters they should follow to avoid being raided. Katherine Adraneda
