A contingent of about 4,000 representatives of the local government, schools and private sector joined the Forward Taguig Grand Parade Sunday, the kick-off of the opening of the week-long celebration of the 415th founding anniversary of the municipality of Taguig.
Mayor Freddie Tinga led the parade, considered the grandest march successfully organized in Taguig. In his speech, Tinga extended his gratitude to all participants whose active involvement manifested support for the programs and development campaign of the administration. The parade culminated at the Municipal Quadrangle "B," a recently developed 6,322 square-meter open space. The area was previously a junkyard.
On Monday the mayor officially launched the food security and anti-poverty alleviation project of the local government in cooperation with Mayor Teodorico Padilla Jr. and the municipality of Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya. In a simple ceremony, both mayors formally announced the implementation of a bilateral livelihood program where major agricultural products of Sta. Fe will be procured by the municipality of Taguig through a cooperative scheme. The project aims to provide consumers from Taguig and neighboring towns and cities with high quality agricultural and livestock products at minimal prices while providing marketing assistance to the agricultural workers from Sta. Fe.
Residents of Sta. Fe engaged in the production of agricultural and livestock products will have direct buyers from Taguig as provided for in a memorandum of agreement signed by the two mayors. The opening of an Agro-Industrial Fair selling products from Sta. Fe, followed the ceremony. In the afternoon of the same day, 325 couples participated in the Kasalang Bayan, a mass wedding officiated by Tinga through the assistance of the Local Civil Registry.
