An employee of the Ayala Land Inc. was apprehended the other day in a large-scale estafa case involving over P11 million.
P02 Glenn Gonzalvo of the Makati City police identified the suspect as Jose Noel Carlos, 37, married, treasury officer of Ayala Land Inc. and a resident of New Manila, Quezon City. Carlos was apprehended in response to the complaint of Noel de Guzman and his wife Nora for allegedly divesting them of more than P11 million.
Based on the investigation, the suspect came into contact with the couple through Noras cousin Roberto Ignacio. Carlos asked Ignacio if he knew someone who could sell to him a huge amount of foreign currency. Ignacio referred the De Guzmans to Carlos because they were involved in the business of foreign currency exchange.
A deal was subsequently negotiated between the two parties wherein Carlos would purchase the amount of $225,000.
Carlos agreed to pay the couple in cash in the amount of P11,495,250 to be deposited in their bank account.
On April 19, Nora instructed her brother Romeo Ang to deliver the $225,000 to the office of Ignacio at the PBCom Tower in Makati City where the transaction was supposed to take place.
After the transaction Carlos told Ang that he would just deposit the amount in the bank account of the De Guzmans.
However, the couple did not receive a single centavo from Carlos and were instead informed that the suspects account did not have sufficient funds to shoulder the transaction. With Kristine Joy Nanlong, Grace Elaine Guce, Maricel Cuenca
