A total of 950 residents of Las Piñas graduated from vocational and technical courses at the Las Piñas Manpower Center last week in graduation rites at the Verdant covered court in Barangay Pamplona III.
The Las Piñas City Manpower Training Center is a priority program of Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel Nene Aguilar giving free vocational and technical courses for the city residents particularly, the out-of-school youth for them to have employable skills after six months of training.
Every year, more than 2,000 residents, mostly youth, avail of the technical and vocational courses at the center without paying a single centavo.
Aside from free tuition, students are also provided free graduation benefits and employment assistance courtesy of Mayor Vergel Aguilar.
The citys free manpower center has already produced more than 10,000 skilled city residents since it started in 1995 and are now gainfully employed in various companies in Las Piñas and some have put up small businesses of their own.
Aguilar also expressed optimism that the graduates, being highly skilled, have great chance of finding gainful employment with the increasing demand of highly-skilled workers in the country and abroad.
The Las Piñas Training Center has been cited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as one of the best technical vocational schools in the country today.
It is also considered one of the most awarded training centers in the country with its winning medals in Skills Olympics in the Philippines and Asia.
The Training Center offers free courses in audio technology, automotive trouble shooting, commercial electricity, computer technology and programming, data encoding, high speed sewing, dressmaking, food trade, welding, refrigeration, air conditioning, cosmetology and hotel and restaurant services.
