President Arroyos traffic decongestion program in highly urbanized areas has achieved another milestone as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opens today the northbound viaduct along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City.
DPWH Secretary Simeon Datumanong said the opening to vehicular traffic of the three lane northbound flyover will complement the southbound viaduct to facilitate the free flowing of vehicles along EDSA and provide convenience to motorists and commuters.
"With a combined carriage way of a six-lane, the north and southbound flyovers will practically eliminate congestion in this busy intersection especially now that the underpass structure is undergoing construction," said Datumanong.
DPWH Undersecretary Manuel Bonoan said that the flyover structure alongside the metro Rail Transit (MRT) track under the P664.9 million EDSA-Quezon Avenue Interchange Project is among the grade separation projects at major intersections along EDSA being implemented by the department.
Funded under a loan agreement between the Government of the Philippines (GOP) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the project is under the supervision of the DPWH-Urban Road Project Office-Project Management Office (DPWH-URPO-PMO).
