Police arrest fake traffic enforcer

Police arrested the other day a 28-year-old man in Quezon City who was posing as a traffic enforcer and allegedly extorting money from motorists.

Suspect Allan Miravino, of Absesion Drive Extension, Alpha Village, Old Balara, is now detained at the Central Police District headquarters awaiting necessary charges to be filed against him.

Investigators said that Miravino has been victimizing motorists along the Eliptical Road in Quezon City. The suspect makes up bogus traffic violations and extorts cash from motorists.

Recovered from Miravino were traffic violation receipts, a fake MMDA deputy ID, and a motorcycle bearing license plate PC 3257. charges of robbery and extortion are now being readied against Miravino.

The suspect was nabbed after he extorted money from a certain Magno Capule, 57, who reported the incident to authorities after shelling out P500 to Miravino.

Meanwhile, high-ranking officials of the CPD said that they would be deploying hundreds of policemen for today’s EDSA celebration.

Senior Inspector Rodolfo Jaraza, chief of the CPD-Central Investigation Unit, said that the deployment of policemen would ensure a safe and orderly celebration in EDSA.

"Our elements and operatives are always ready to be called on whenever important events like these take place. This is our way of showing the people that we are doing our jobs well," Jaraza said. — Matthew Estabillo
