German can’t pay motel bill

-
A German national was thrown to jail yesterday after he failed to pay his three-day hotel bill and even tried to flee when roomboys came knocking at his room, the police said.

Helmut Luzien Bister, 45, who claimed to be a resident of Iligan City, was arrested based on the complaint of the Victoria Court Hotel management when it became clear that the German had no intention of paying up.

Police said Bister’s bill accumulated to P14,529, representing food, drinks, and his stay at the motel for three days.

Bister reportedly checked in at the hotel, located on Cuneta Avenue, Pasay City, about 1:20 p.m. Saturday. Worried over the accumulating bill, the hotel management reportedly asked for a downpayment yesterday morning but the German locked his door.

The hotel management said Bister then tried to escape by destroying the window screen of his room. He will also have to pay for the damaged window screen worth P500. An estafa charge has been filed against Bister. — Jose Aravilla
