Girl survives mishap

A six-year-old girl miraculously escaped death after she was hit and dragged for several meters by a passenger bus while crossing a busy road on her way to church in Caloocan City Sunday.
Kaye Isabel Villalia of Cielito Homes Subdivision, Zabarte Road, Novaliches, Caloocan City, who suffered only a broken leg, was taken to the Bernardino Hospital in Bagong Silang.
Billie Ernie Uizo, driver of Jell Transit bus (PWE 988), was surrendered to the police by bystanders. Investigation showed the accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in front of the Jesus Is Lord (JIL) church along Laforteza Street.
Probers said Villalia was seen by witnesses crossing the street when she was hit by the bus. Witnesses told probers the bus driver allegedly tried to run over the girl by reversing gear but was prevented by passengers and bystanders. The suspect is now detained pending the filing of charges of frustrated homicide through reckless imprudence. Jerry Botial
