Alabang grenade suspect arrested

A suspect in the grenade throwing incident in Alabang, Muntinlupa on Jan. 21 that killed three persons, including a relative of Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, has been arrested by the police, sources said yesterday.

Suspect Omar Racman, 35, was nabbed by the Muntinlupa City police at the Lazaro compound, in Calamba, Laguna late Wednesday afternoon following a tip from an informant.

Racman was identified by a witness as one of the three men who allegedly lobbed a grenade on the busy Montillano Extension street at about 8:30 p.m.

The suspects appeared to be targeting a group of auxiliary policemen under Mayor Fresnedi, investigation said, but in the process killed two other children,

Killed from shrapnel wounds were seven-month-old Michaela and her four-year-old sister Dianne Beronia. Scores were wounded in the blast.

Racman, a resident of PNR compound in Calamba, Laguna was charged yesterday with multiple murder. The complainant in the case was the wife of Noel Navarro, the third fatality in the blast and a relative of the mayor who was a member of the police auxiliary force. – Jose Aravilla
