In a statement yesterday, Mayor Jejomar Binay noted that a total of 34 vehicles have been towed and impounded because of illegal parking or road obstruction during the period of Jan. 8 to 13 this year.
Based on the data of the Makati Police Traffic Enforcement Unit, most of the impounded vehicles were privately owned.
The campaign is part of the overall traffic improvement plan of the city government, which covers not only the central business district but the entire Makati City.
According to the TEU, the campaign was initially focused on the major roads because of the greater volume of traffic on any given hour.
Binay said that illegal parking is one of the major causes of traffic and vehicular accidents within and outside the city. Marvin Sy
