Probe Malabon kidnap deeper, Aglipay orders

Metro Manila police chief Director Edgar Aglipay ordered the Malabon police yesterday to dig deeper into the reported kidnapping last Thursday of a daughter of a Chinese businessman.

At the same time, Aglipay ordered Superintendent Ernesto Fojas, Malabon police chief, to secure Chinese-populated villages and areas in his town to prevent other kidnapping cases.

Initial reports showed that the kidnapping of Mai Ling Ang, alias Okim, 40, who is said to be a lesbian, was triggered by a love triangle but Aglipay said "no stone should be left unturned in the police investigation to get to the bottom of the case."

"We should continue our investigation so that the real motive of the alleged kidnapping can be unearthed," said Aglipay in an interview.

Aglipay did not give Fojas any deadline to solve the case.

When he assumed his post last Nov. 14, Aglipay come up with an agreement that any of the 37 station commanders in Metro Manila would be relieved should a high-profile crime, like kidnapping-for-ransom or bank and payroll robbery, occur in their jurisdiction.

So far, Aglipay does not see the case of Ang as a kidnapping "since no ransom has been demanded from her family."

"The victim’s family has been cooperating in the investigation," said Aglipay. "We expect a breakthrough any time now."

Aglipay said Fojas was regularly updating him with reports on the investigation of the case.

Ang, daughter of Leong Ang, production manager of Golden Sun Canning Corp., located at Don Basilio Bautista Blvd., in Barangay Hulong Duhat, was with her alleged "partner," Marites Fernando, 36, when waylaid by three men. Fernando is the cashier of the company.

Police said the younger Ang and Fernando have been living together for quite sometime. Fernando, police probers said, reportedly separated from her overseas contract worker husband to live with the victim. – Non Alquitran
