Three non-government organizations (NGOs), including a think tank group for youth development, has separately picked human rights lawyer-turned Quezon City councilor Ariel Inton as the Outstanding Councilor for 2001.
In separate ceremonies conducted recently, the Development of Filipino Youth Foundation, Peoples Vision Magazine and Achievers Magazine Foundation said Intons "exemplary competence, dynamic leadership and meritorious achievement" earned for him the prestigious awards in the four months of his tenure as 4th District councilor.
The commendations gave the neophyte councilor his 20th award from peoples organizations and NGO groups since he took his oath of office in June.
According to Irene Lozana and Jess Lazarito, the youth chair for socio-civic affairs and chair of the committee on awards and recognition of the Development of Filipino Youth Foundation, respectively, Intons "proven competence, as demonstrated by his self-reliance as city legislator, has established (his) prestige to the highest level of public service and trust."
"Intons Achievers Golden Merit Award as Outstanding City Councilor was conferred in celebration of the Childrens Month last October in simple rites held at the Bayview Park Hotel", Lazarito said.
Achievers Magazine Foundation publisher Evelyn Tasani together with her legal consultant, Manila RTC Judge Juan Nabong Jr., commended Inton as Outstanding City Legislator of the New Millennium for his "exemplary achievements in pursuit of public service, having demonstrated an exceptional quality of leadership imbued with lofty idealism, courage, and an impeccable record (as neophyte legislator)."
The awarding rites were held at the Bayview Park Hotel last Nov. 30.
