Pasig to recover lost lands

The local government of Pasig City will intensify its claims to territory lost to neighboring towns and cities.

If her husband former mayor Vicente Eusebio failed to push through with the claims, Pasig City Mayor Idad Eusebio has vowed to stop the alleged encroachment by other local government units.

Pasig City shares borders with the cities of Mandaluyong and Makati in Metro Manila and Cainta town in Rizal province.

Lawyer, Ricado Castillo head of the city’s legal division said the claim on lost territories and borders was in the top agenda of the former mayor when he assumed his post in 1994. It was only during the term of Idad when the claim was integrated, Castillo said.

Castillo pointed out that the border of Pasig City and Mandaluyong City was supposed to be the whole stretch of EDSA or formerly known as Highway 54.

"But unfortunately, Mandaluyong has encroached and limited the Pasig border to where St. Francis Church is now located," said Castillo. "It (Mandaluyong) has claimed the side where most of the commercial centers now stand like the EDSA Shangri-La Plaza."

Castillo said Mayor Eusebio is very active in going after its lost borders and territories which are supposed to be part of the city.

He added that they would also dispute part of Fort Bonifacio which is being claimed by Makati City.

But they would do so only after the ongoing litigation on their border with the local government of Cainta, Rizal.

"We are contemplating on going full blast in going after our lost borders when we wrap our claim on the lands contested with Cainta," said Castillo. – Non Alquitran
