Motorists lambast DPWH diggings for traffic mess

-
Thousands of motorists lambasted yesterday the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) for "indiscriminate" road diggings and excavations, which are causing monstrous traffic jams in many parts of Metro Manila.

Motorists and commuters observed that the diggings have exacerbated the already critical traffic condition due to the onset of the Christmas season.

In Manila, three major road diggings are now going on along the streets of Julio Nakpil in Malate; Laon-Laan in Sampaloc and Quintin Paredes in Binondo. The diggings cause monstrous traffic.

Excavation and road rehabilitation are on going in Tandang Sora, near the corner of Commonwealth Avenue, a portion of EDSA, near Kamuning market, a part of the road going to Fairview in Quezon City and Imelda Avenue in Cainta.

Some observers expressed belief that some of the roads the DPWH contractors have dug up were in "good shape and condition" and do not need repairs.

"In effect, the DPWH is just wasting the Filipinos’ money, aside from causing them inconvenience with the monstrous traffic," a motorist quipped. — Cecille Suerte Felipe
