Zambo folks set Fiesta Pilar party

-
La Hermanidad Zamboangueña Foundation, Inc. is celebrating its 41st anniversary and the feast day of La Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar with a Hawaiian dinner dance on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Manila Polo Club, Makati City.

Esperanza "Neny" Uro-Balcos, foundation president, said all Metro Manila based Zamboangueños from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Basilan City are welcome to attend the affair.

Uro-Balcos said that aside from promoting fellowship and camaraderie among Zamboangueños in Metro Manila, the foundation has also been sponsoring scholarships for poor but deserving students. "Presently, we are supporting a total of 13 scholars who are enrolled in the Western Mindanao State University, Zamboanga City Polytechnic College, and Basilan State College."

"In addition, nine other scholars graduated last April including Erlyn Javellana who graduated cum laude from the Zamboanga City Polytechnic College with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education, major in Mathematics," she said.

On Saturday, Zamboan-gueños in Metro Manila are also invited to participate in the First Fiesta Pilar Bowling Cup (fun games) starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Quezon City Sport Club on E. Rodriguez Avenue in Quezon City. The games will be sponsored by the Ateneo de Zamboanga Metro Manila Alumni Association (ADZMMAA).
