Sick, jobless man leaps to death from QC overpass

-
After finding out he had serious health problems, a 63-year-old jobless man leaped to his death yesterday from a pedestrian overpass in Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City.

Victim Magdaleno Maulin, 63, a resident of Silang Cavite, suffered a broken skull and fractured bones and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Maulin, who had been complaining of poor health, reportedly found out he had cancer. Relatives said he was depressed for days because he could not afford medication.

Initial investigation showed the victim was reportedly seen loitering around the overpass for sometime, which was noticed by a traffic enforcer.

The traffic enforcer said he called the man’s attention, but he was met with a sharp rebuke from Maulin who scolded him. The traffic enforcer said he sensed something was wrong and called on his colleagues for help.

But when he returned, he saw Maulin jump from the overpass. Although the victim was not ran over by passing vehicles, Maulin hit his head on the pavement first. Traffic enforcers brought the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.

Meanwhile, a laborer was stabbed dead in Malabon Sunday night.

Dead on arrival at the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon was Douglas Palomar, of legal age, while his brother Cenon, both of Block 18, Lot 21, 41 Dulong Hernandez St., Malabon City, sustained a stab wound in the right hand.

Being hunted by police is suspect Jessie Abad, 34, a neighbor of the Palomar brothers, who fled after the incident.

Police records showed the incident happened around 9 p.m. near the house of the victims. Police said Abad attacked the Palomars when Douglas allegedly urinated in front of his house. Matthew Estabillo
