It was a case of "You and me against the world."
Two lovers, both minors, would rather stay in jail than be separated from each other and out of each others lives by their parents who only want a better future for them.
Bernie (not his real name), 17, and Rica (not her real name), 16, neighbors at PNR Compound, Caloocan City, both high school dropouts, were brought yesterday by the police for inquest at the Caloocan City Prosecutors Office on charges of consented abduction and parental disobedience. Ricas mother filed the complaint the other day.
The Caloocan City police Women and Childrens Desk gathered that the girls parents decided to have the lovers share time, if not cells, at the city police jail for repeated attempts at elopement.
The parents said they wanted the lovers to finish their studies first before getting married or living together as husband and wife.
The complainants argued that their objection to the lovers relationship was justified because they think they are too young to be able to face the obligations and difficulties of raising a family.
While their elders claim they have eloped about four times in the past, the lovers told The STAR, when interviewed in their detention cells, that they did it only twice, on March 3 and on July 15 of this year. In both occassions, they lived as man and wife for a month before being found by the young girls parents.
The mother said the two promised the first time they were found that they would finish their studies first. Both are third year high school dropouts, the girl from the Abad Santos High School in Manila, the boy from the Caloocan City High School.
When the two were caught together again the other day, the girls parents wasted no time in bringing them to jail.
The two vowed that no matter what happens, no one can separate them from each other. Not their parents, not the police, not even jail.
