A member of the Traffic Management Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who serves as the motorcycle escort of Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo is now fighting for his life after being involved in an accident Thursday in Makati City.
SPO1 Mike Descalzo of the Makati Police Traffic Division identified the victim as PO3 Armando Perez, a member of the highway patrol of the PNP-TMG.
Based on the spot report of the Traffic Division, the incident took place at around 5:15 p.m. last Thursday along J.P. Rizal Extension near the Guadalupe Bliss Chapel.
On board his motorcycle, Perez was hit head on by an oncoming Nissan Sentra sedan driven by Reynaldo Collado at the opposite lane of the road. The police officer was thrown off his motorcycle and landed several meters away from the point of impact.
Two concerned citizens, who were passing by at the time, brought the badly wounded Perez to the Makati Medical Center.
A sketch of the accident scene revealed that the motorcycle was hit along the opposite lane of the road. Traffic policemen theorized that Perez might have been trying to overtake a vehicle by using the opposite lane.
Because the site where the accident happened was along a curve part of the road, the investigators assumed that Perez did not see the oncoming vehicle. The attempt to dodge the vehicle proved futile which resulted in the crash, investigators said. Marvin Sy
