2 Sampaloc rob suspects arrested

-
Two suspects in the P2 million robbery of an obstetrician’s house in Sampaloc, Manila, last July 31, fell into the hands of the Manila police the other night.

Operatives of the Western Police District-Theft and Robbery Section identified those arrested as Noel Gomez, 27; and his brother Marcial, 31; both residents of Metrica St., Sampaloc.

According to police, the suspects were arrested in their house following a tip from informants at about 6 p.m.

When interrogated, the suspects denied any participation in the robbery and claimed to be only engaged in the sale of macapuno candies.

It will be recalled that four armed men broke into the house of Dr. Narcisa Yee, 38, at 821 A. Maceda St., at about 5:45 a.m. last Tuesday.

The suspects hog-tied Yee and the other members of the household before carting away an estimated P2 million in cash, jewelry and cellular phones. Police are still tracking down the other suspects.

Meanwhile, a porter was stabbed dead by a truck helper following an argument during a drinking spree in Tondo, Manila, early yesterday morning.

Reports reaching the homicide section of the Western Police District identified the victim as Raul Brosas, 47, of 104-Road 10 Tondo.

According to reports, the suspect identified as Noel Montemayor, 27, was engaged in a drinking spree with two other men, a certain Teteng and a certain Noel, along a narrow alley near R-10 at about 1 a.m. when the victim passed by.

Police said Montemayor invited the already drunk victim to have another round of drinks with them. The victim agreed and had a couple of beers.

A heated argument erupted between Montemayor and Brosas. During the altercation, police said, the suspect drew a fan knife and threatened the victim with it.

Police said Brosas ran away upon seeing the suspect’s knife, and went home, thinking that the suspect had been pacified by his two companions.

However, to his surprise, the suspect had followed him home and stabbed him as he was knocking on his door.

Police said the victim died on the spot due to a knife wound in the chest. The suspect, meanwhile, fled on foot with the weapon. He is now being tracked down by the police. – Mike Frialde
