Cop kills 2 in Valenzuela

A Valenzuela City policeman, whose superiors claimed was on an undercover mission, shot dead two persons in a scuffle late Sunday night in Valenzuela City.

Victims Perpetuo delos Santos, 27, of 56 Sebastian Street, Barangay Bagbaguin and Joselito Pinenda, 32, of Libis Canumay (East), both of Valenzuela City, were declared dead on arrival by Dr. Relindo Salcedo of the Valenzuela City General Hospital. They were tagged by policemen as notorious holdup men.

Gun wielder PO3 Michael Montallana, 34, surrendered to his superior, SPO4 Dionisio Ramirez, is detained at the city police jail.

The police said a witness, Jocelyn Dayapatio, saw the three having a drinking session at her place on 8 Centro, Barangay Lawang Bato at around 10:30 p.m. She said Montallana tried to inspect the clutch bag De los Santos was carrying. But Pineda kept Montallana from opening the bag after which the two grappled for its possession.

In the commotion, De los Santos allegedly drew a .45 caliber pistol and fired at Montallana but missed. – Jerry Botial and Pete Laude
