Jealous man beats wife to death

-
Consumed by jealousy, a jobless man allegedly beat his wife to death Tuesday morning in Valenzuela City, police said.

Victim Florentina Caneja, 40, of 26 Bezzote St., Barangay Karuhatan reportedly vomited blood and was rushed by relatives to the Valenzuela City General Hospital at around 11 a.m. But she was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Police immediately arrested Caneja’s husband, Joselito, 42.

Investigation showed that the Canejas had a heated argument on the evening of July 23 in their house and that Joselito allegedly beat up his wife. Station Investigation Branch (SIB) chief Inspector Salvador de la Cruz said police learned that Joselito had accused his wife of having an affair.

As a canteen worker, Florentina usually leaves the house early in the morning and arrives late at night, prompting her husband to suspect that she was meeting a lover, De la Cruz said.

De la Cruz said Florentina sustained injuries on her forehead and her body also showed signs of strangulation.

Police are set to file parricide charges against Joselito who is detained at the station’s detention cell.

Meanwhile, a 27-year old law graduate was accidentally shot dead the other night after quarreling with a security guard of a shopping mall in Manila’s University Belt.

Police reports identified the victim as Rolly Arias, a native of Naga City, Camarines Sur, and temporarily residing at M.V. delos Santos street in Sampaloc, Manila.

Reports said the victim, a graduate of the Aquinas University in Legaspi City, was in Manila to review for his bar exams in September. – Nikko Dizon and Mike Frialde
