Munti wants own drug rehab center
July 6, 2001 | 12:00am
The Muntinlupa City government is planning to establish its own drug rehabilitation facility and provide an "after-care program" for rehabilitated drug users and dependents.
Tez Valencia, Public Information Office chief, said the plans were proposed during a meeting of all the city’s barangay leaders with Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and Vice Mayor Jojay Alcaraz.
Valencia said the proposal was made after barangay officials noted that the problem of families with relatives hooked on illegal drugs was the lack of space in the Philippine National Police drug rehabilitation center in Bicutan, Taguig.
Valencia said the importance of including an "after-care program" in the proposed rehabilitation center was that it would offer "reformed" drug users livelihood training to keep them busy and prevent them from returning to their former vices.
Valencia said they are still discussing the site of the rehabilitation center and its construction. – Rainier Allan Ronda
