The Nigerian Embassy has clarified that the amount stolen from Ambassador Ray Inije in a theft that occurred early this month in the envoy’s residence in Forbes Park, Makati City was only P16,000 and $1,800.
In a letter sent to The STAR, the Nigerian Embassy said that the earlier stated bigger amounts in an article published on June 4, were erroneous. The theft occurred in Inije’s room sometime last June 2.
The envoy discovered the vault in his room slightly ajar at around 8 p.m. The cash was missing when he checked the contents of the vault. Police are still investigating the case. – Rainier Allan Ronda
