The honorees were divided into two categories, top 10 business taxpayers and top 10 real property taxpayers. All 20 firms were awarded plaques of recognition and appreciation by Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.
For the business taxes, the honorees and corresponding taxes paid for fiscal year 2000 are Unilever Phils., Inc., P41.488 million; International Container Terminal Services, Inc., P35.041 million; Asian Terminals, Inc., P32,921 million; Shoemart Inc., P20.582 million; San Miguel Corp., P20.347 million; Acesite (Phils.) Hotel Corp., P11.197 million; Phil-Am Life & General Insurance Co., P9.788 million; Jollibee Food Corp., P8.903 million; McGeorge Food Industries Inc., P8.897 million; and The Manila Hotel, P8.391 million.
For the second category (real property taxes), the honorees were Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, P24.221 million; Asian Terminals, Inc., P22.890 million; Unilever Phils., Inc., P16.566 million, International Container Terminal Services, Inc., P16.328 million; Phil. Diamond Hotel & Resort Corp., P11.157 million; Tutuban Properties, Inc., P10.262 million; San Miguel Corp., P9.995 million; Manila Midtown Commercial Corp., P8.756 million; Petron Corp., P8.445 million; and Tri-Union Properties, Inc., P7.215 million.
Atienza, in his inspirational message during the awarding ceremonies, thanked the honorees for their role in helping the city post a new record in revenue collection for 2000. He assured them that their taxes would be invested in productive programs for the city.
