LTO uncovers 65 fake employees

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has recently discovered 65 fake employees with genuine LTO identification cards, occupying official desks.

Edgardo Abenina, LTO direcor, said the discovery was the result of the strict monitoring of LTO fixers.

"This incident somehow confirms corruption at the LTO. We have so far arrested 65 fake employees and we’re looking for more, he said."

The suspects were had original IDs and were assigned their own desks at the LTO. They dealt directly with applicants for driver’s license and license plates.

"These people were not in the LTO payroll. But they admitted that someone here was giving them allowances of P280 each at the end of every day, Abenina said.

Abenina added that they have already identified the mastermind of the irregularity.

He directed LTO employees not to loiter around the LTO premises during office hours so the fixers could easily be identified.

"We ask the public to help us eliminate corruption at the LTO. They must not negotiate with fixers. If an employee is acting like a fixer, they better that report to us. We are doing our best to improve our service," he stressed. Sheila Crisostomo
