The son and daughter-in-law of Senator Robert Jaworski have been charged for involvement in a drug buy-bust operation last Monday in Makati City.
Ryan Joseph Jaworski and his wife Bernadette were formally charged by the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Makati police for violating Section 16 (possession of illegal drugs) of Republic Act 6425 or the Dangerous Drugs Act at the City Prosecutors Office yesterday.
Michael Calimbahin, the primary suspect in the case, was charged with Section 15 (drug pushing) for his part as the middle man in the illegal drugs transaction.
The police were about to apprehend Ryan and Bernadette during the operation last Monday but they managed to escape from operatives of the DEU, leaving behind some 2.5 grams of shabu and a calling card.
Calimbahin, who was arrested by the Makati police during the operation, continued to deny the involvement of the Jaworskis as he claimed that the confiscated shabu was his.
Senator Jaworski likewise denied that his son was involved and even challenged the Makati police to file charges against Ryan and his wife.
The Senator claimed that his son was in the area where the incident took place because his wife had to relieve herself in the house of a friend in the area.
However, operatives of the DEU led by Senior Inspector Cesar Garcia claimed that they were positive about their version of the incident.
Two of the DEU members who were involved in the buy-bust operation disclosed that the young Jaworski made a mockery of them when they tried to question the couple inside their vehicle.
Instead of cooperating with the police, the couple yielded the sachet of shabu and a calling card before speeding off.
One of the operatives at the scene was almost ran over by the Ford F-150 pick-up truck of the Jaworskis.
Assistant City Prosecutor Amador Pineda said that the DEU has a strong case against the couple based on the evidence gathered during the buy-bust operation. - with Perseus Echeminada
