Man killed, 2 hurt as truck goes wild

Elements of the Western Police District-Homicide Section are now tracking down the driver of a tractor truck which crashed into people and parked vehicles at Manila’s Port Area Monday night killing one person and injuring two others.

Reports reaching the WPD headquarters identified the fugitive driver as Jacinto Serrano, 43, of Kabilang Baybay, Carmona, Cavite.

According to reports, Serrano was speeding aboard his tractor truck with plate number PRR-214 at about 7:30 p.m. along 16th street when it suddenly made a right turn towards Bonifacio Drive.

Police said the sudden right turn caused Serrano to lose control of the steering wheel sending the truck swerving towards a line of parked passenger jeepneys and pedicabs.

As the truck plowed into the parked vehicles it also slammed into Crispulo Arrellano, 24, of Hagonoy, Bulacan; Rodolfo Umila, 34, of 3973 A. Gen. Malvar St., Makati City; and an unidentified woman.

The victims were taken by bystanders to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment. Arellano later died due to multiple injuries.

Investigators said Serrano tried to escape after the incident but was chased by elements of the port police. He was cornered near the main office of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

But after handing his driver’s license to port policeman Nick Aras, Serrano again drove his truck towards the Del Pan Bridge making good his escape.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old family driver was arrested the Sunday after his co-worker, a 14-year-old housemaid, accused him of raping her twice in Parañaque City.

Senior Police Officer 4 Dominador Bartolazo of the Parañaque police community precinct 4 identified the suspect as Elizer Aris, married, and a stay-in driver at 3 Garcia St., Admiral Village, Barangay Merville, in this city.

Arias was arrested at 5 p.m. Sunday after the victim, whose identity is being withheld, filed her complaint accompanied by her mother. – Mike Frialde and Rainier Allan Ronda
