Las Piñas mayor hits black propaganda
March 13, 2001 | 12:00am
Las Piñas City reelectionist Mayor Vergel Nene Aguilar lambasted his political opponents criticisms on the issue of check and balance and political dynasty, dismissing it be to "baseless and recycled political propaganda."
This developed as congressional bet Antonio Tamayo said in a press statement that the election of Congress bet Cynthia Villar and Aguilar will put Las Piñas in complete control of a single family.
Aguilar challenged Tamayo to review the Local Government Code in order to know the separation of powers and functions between Congress and city governments.
Under the LGU code, check and balance is a function between the city executive and the legislative which is the City Council and Congress has no jurisdiction over them.
Aguilar noted that the citys massive infrastructure development and the yearly surplus in the local budget speak of the well-managed financial condition of the city.
The city government has been consistently in sound financial condition, cited by the Department of Finance (DoF) as one of the best managed cities in the country having no loans in any private and government financial institutions, Aguilar said.
"If political dynasty is about giving free hospitalization, free college education, the construction of modern health and lying-in centers, day care centers, clean surroundings and peaceful community, then the people of Las Piñas will be the ultimate judge whether it is bad," Aguilar pointed out.
"Las Piñas residents are intelligent voters and they will not succumb to baseless and cheap political gimmick of people who have vested interests of my losing opponents," Aguilar further said.
Aguilar has reelectionist Vice Mayor Louie Bustamante as his running mate in the coming May 14 elections.
