A Manila policeman was shot and seriously wounded by a suspected drug pusher whom he had tried to arrest at the Philippine National Railways compound in Pandacan, Manila, last Friday night.
Reports reaching the headquarters of the Western Police District identified the victim as Police Officer 2 Christopher Villaluz, detailed with the Pandacan police station.
According to a report by the Pandacan police, at about 11:45 p.m., Villaluz, along with some barangay tanods went to the house of Jomari Laron, 21, a suspected drug pusher in the area, at 1318 PNR Compound along Quirino Highway, to arrest him.
When they reached the suspects house, Villaluz and the tanods were surprised when Laron appeared carrying an improvised shotgun.
Without warning, Laron began firing at the arresting team hitting Villaluz in the right knee. The suspect was later subdued by the other members of the arresting team and brought to the Pandacan police station.
Villaluz was rushed by his companions to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment. Laron was charged with frustrated homicide, illegal possession of firearms and violation of the election gun ban. Mike Frialde
