PNCC chided on Alabang viaduct

The Philippine National Construction Co. (PNCC) was accused of taking lightly the safety of South Luzon Expressway users, as the countrys leading expressway operator allegedly failed to initiate rehabilitation measures on the Alabang viaduct.
Ray Junia of San Pedro, Laguna, warned that the PNCC is playing with the life and limb of motorists of the Alabang viaduct which he said needed major repairs considering that it is already 30 years old.
"Warnings from the mayor of Muntinlupa City cannot be taken lightly as users are not exactly naive of the kind of risks they are taking in passing throught the viaduct," Junia said.
According to Junia, the overpass shakes when big trucks pass, claiming that the vibration "is just too much for comfort."
Earlier Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi assailed the management of PNCC for its failure to rehabilitate damaged beams of the Alabang viaduct.
Both Fresnedi and Junia fear for the lives of motorists using the expressway viaduct and the lives of those under the bridge in the event of collapse. The viaduct saves expressway users from passing through the congested traffic of Alabang.
Junia said he was speaking out the concerns of tens of thousands of motorists of the viaduct from San Pedro. He has been nominated as the PDP-Laban candidate for vice mayor in the town in the coming May elections.
