An alleged drug pusher was shot and wounded by an anti-narcotics policeman in a shootout in Muntinlupa City Sunday night.
Police identified the wounded suspect as Rolando Lopez, 19, single, and resident of Sitio Ilaya, Alabang, in this city. Police Officer 1 Ervin Guzman, of the Muntinlupa police Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) surrendered to his colleagues and is under technical arrest pending an investigation.
Investigation showed the shootout occurred at around 6 p.m. near the Morning Breeze bridge in Ilaya.
It was learned that a group of DEU agents was about to apprehend Lopez after receiving a call from concerned residents reporting his alleged drug peddling activities. Seeing the policemen approach, Lopez reportedly fired shots at the group and scampered away.
This led to a brief chase after which Guzman was able to corner Lopez and shoot him. Lopez was taken to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment. Police are now readying drug peddling charges against him. Rainier Allan Ronda
