Rookie cop kills self

A rookie policeman shot himself in the head the other night in Valenzuela City after his wife had learned he has a mistress, investigators said.

Police Officer 1 Nestor Besa Jr., 28, assigned at the Northern Police District-Mobile Patrol Unit, sustained a gunshot wound in the head and died on the spot.

Initial investigation conducted by SPO4 Arthur Quinonez showed that the incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. inside the victim’s house at 54 Bonifacio St., East Canumay in Valenzuela.

According to Besa’s wife, Gilda, a woman talked to her on the phone and claimed the victim was having an affair with her.

When the victim arrived home from duty, his wife confronted him about the allegations. Besa denied it at first, but after Gilda insisted, he admitted his fault.

Gilda vowed that she would never forgive him for what he did, and immediately left their house. The victim later took out his caliber .38 revolver and shot himself in the right side of his head.

Besa was taken by neighbors to the nearest hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. – Matthew Estabillo
