Two persons were killed and one was critically injured in two separate vehicular accidents in Quezon City the other night.
Three-year-old Ryan Avellana, of 20 BMA Street, Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City, died on the spot when he and his mother, Anita, 32, housewife, of the same address, were hit by a speeding Honda Civic while crossing Quezon Avenue near Biak na Bato at around 8:15 p.m.
Investigation showed mother and son were already midway when a Honda Civic (WDN) 569), driven by David Tapang, 17, single, student, of 701 Sto. Cristo Street, Binondo, Manila, traveling along Quezon Avenue from the direction of Araneta Avenue, heading towards Mabuhay Rotonda, hit the victims.
Police Officer 3 Ronquillo Maano, officer-on-case, said Tapangs mother, Arleen, under whose name the vehicle was registered, was on board the Honda Civic driven by the teenager.
Upon reaching Banawe Street, the left front portion of the Honda hit mother and son and the latter was thrown several meters away. Anita was dragged by the vehicle until it came to a full stop.
As a result, the three-year-old boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital due to a broken skull; while his mother is in critical condition in the same hospital with severe injuries. Pia Lee-Brago
