As the whole country was euphoric over the bloodless collapse of the Estrada administration last Saturday night, a 19-year-old college student was shot dead by three unidentified men in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
The homicide section of the Western Police District identified the victim as Marion Sestoso, a native of Boloon, Cebu and a resident of 369 Valencia st., Sta. Mesa, Manila.
According to Senior Police Officer 1 Edmundo Cabal, the victim was walking along Valencia st. at about 7:40 p.m. with a certain Richard Suño when their path was blocked by three unidentified men.
Immediately, the suspects drew out handguns of still unidentified calibers and opened fire at Sestoso and Suño.
Police said Sestoso, who was fired at from close range, sustained bullet wounds in the head and body. Suño, meanwhile, managed to run away.
Sestoso died on arrival at the De Ocampo Hospital in Nagtahan.
Homicide investigators have still to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting as the victim reportedly had no known enemies. Mike Frialde
