Junkie fires gun in Tondo; man killed

A stevedore was killed while two people were wounded after an allegedly drug-crazed pedicab driver, armed with a revolver, opened fire inside a passenger jeepney in Tondo, Manila, early yesterday morning.
Reports reaching the Western Police District headquarters identified the fatality as stevedore Jovenor Estoy, 38, of 3153 Building 2, Sawata St., Majpajo, Caloocan City. Wounded were Brigildo Catanino, 22, of 16-A. Bonifacio St., Malabon and Joseph Lazaro, 21, of 753 A. Interior 46 Raxabago St., Tondo, Manila.
According to reports, the victims were aboard a Divisoria-bound jeepney with plate number DJC-894 when suspect Vincent Bona, 18, of 401 A Interior 52 Perla St., Tondo, hailed the vehicle at the Pritil gasoline station.
Moments later, Bona reportedly shouted at the passengers to disembark. When the passengers ignored him, Bona allegedly pulled-out a caliber .38 revolver and opened fire.
The victims, who were seated in front of him, were instantly hit by the hail of bullets. Lazaro was hit in the left side of the body; Catanino sustained a gunshot wound in the right side of the body while Estoy was hit in the left armpit.
Catanino and Lazaro were rushed to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital in Tondo while Estoy died while undergoing treatment at the Martinez Medical Center, also in Tondo.
Policemen later collared the suspect. He is now detained at the WPD Integrated Jail and charges are being readied against him. Mike Frialde
