Toy guns banned in QC
December 30, 2000 | 12:00am
Quezon City Councilor Nanette Castelo Daza called on the local residents to report to the police all vendors and manufacturers of toy guns who violate the city ordinance banning their sale and manufacture.
Daza, who heads the City Councils Committee on Urban Poor Affairs and author of the ordinance against toy guns, warned all traders and owners of shopping malls to stop selling the banned toys or suffer the penalties.
Violators of the ordinance are imposed a one year jail term and a P5,000 fine for the first offense. For the second offense, business permits of store and mall owners would be suspended and the establishments would be padlocked for a month.
The City Council passed the measure two years ago but many gun replicas are dauntlessly still being sold in shopping malls and sidewalks.
Daza states that "children who play with toy guns are easily led to believe that the use of guns to kill or inflict harm on others is an accepted fact of reality in life."
"Toys are primarily made to provide a wholesome entertainment and there are numerous alternative educational toys which help mold the minds of our children towards a violence-free culture," she added.
