2 Chinese die in separate incidents

Two Chinese were killed while two others were mauled and seriously wounded in separate incidents of homicide, robbery, and suicide in Sta. Cruz and Tondo, Manila Tuesday night.

Killed was 91-year-old Ung Yee, caretaker of Silver Star Hotel and restaurant after being attacked by dishwater, Zaldy Cervantes, 21, and was later gagged and hogtied resulting to his suffocation and death.

Ung’s body was found yesterday morning inside a Tamaraw FX van parked in the restaurant’s garage at 2201 Batangas corner Rizal Avenue, Sta. Cruz, Manila, with a gaping wound on the back of his head.

Earlier Tuesday, two more Chinese, both seamen, were nearly killed, after being ganged upon and stabbed by robbers at the Del Pan Bridge in Tondo. The two were identified as Chen Guo Jun, 29, and Wu Pei Kun, 38, both of Guandong, China, and residing on Madre Ignacia street in Malate, Manila.

Police said the two victims were blocked by about six men and demanded their valuables. When the Chinese resisted, the two were reportedly mauled, stabbed and divested of their cash, valuables, and travel documents.

Meanwhile, a 79-year-old Chinese-Filipino housewife, Ines Wi, is believed to have killed herself in her bedroom by hanging.

Wi, a resident of Santiago street in Barrio Obrero, Tondo, was last seen alive about 6 p.m. crying because of severe rheumatism pains. This is what police believe which drove Wi to commit suicide. The victim’s body was found around 8:45 p.m. by one of her grandsons, with a nylon cord looped around her neck, hanging from the ceiling. – Jose Aravilla
