7 CPD cops accused of robbing traders

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -
Seven members of the Central Police District (CPD) are now in hot water after two businesswomen accused them of ransacking and robbing their house in Quezon City late Tuesday afternoon.

The complaints, Florida Cas and Rosy Francisco, sought yesterday the assistance of the Department of Interior and Local Government-Special Task Force (DILG-STF) for the arrest and prosecution of the seven policemen, one of whom was identified as SPO2 Dante Nagera.

The traders filed charges of robbery, grave misconduct and abuse of authority against Nagera and the six other policemen.

DILG-STF director Chief Inspector Nelson Yabut said they would coordinate with CPD director Chief Superintendent Victor Luga for the immediate identification of the suspects, all members of the Quezon City police Station 6 (Batasan).

Cas and Francisco accused Nagera’s group of robbing them of P10,000 in cash and valuables during a "raid" on their house at 93 Camia st., Lower Jasmin, Barangay Payatas, Quezon City Tuesday.

The complainants told Yabut that the policemen arrived at their house, looking for three persons allegedly behind the proliferation of illegal drugs in the area.

The "raiders" claimed they had warrants of arrest.

When they failed to find the persons, the policemen started ransacking their drawers and cabinets and took all the cash, jewelry and valuables, including a camera.

Cas and Francisco claimed they tried to stop the suspects but the policemen threatened to arrest Cas for assault upon persons in authority.

Yabut gathered that the Station 6 policemen and members of the Special Weapons and Action Team (SWAT) really had a legitimate operation in the area but the subjects of the operation were not around.

"Unlike the SWAT men who left the place after learning that the subjects were not around, the six policemen had their own operation at the house of Cas and Francisco. The "magic" took place afterwards," Yabut added.

Yabut said he would personally meet Luga to request a line up of policemen for the traders to be able to identify the suspects.
