Gravedigger hangs self

-
A despondent gravedigger reportedly dug his own grave before hanging himself in front of a mausoleum yesterday in a Caloocan City cemetery.

Jonathan Reyes, 31, a resident of 699 General San Miguel St. was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians at the Manila Central University Hospital.

Reyes was found hanging by a telephone cord around his neck at about 6:30 a.m. by his fellow gravediggers in the Sangandaan Cemetery.

Reports said the victim felt guilty that he could not buy his ailing wife any medicine.

According to police, Reyes first completed his duties before digging his own grave. The victim then took a used telephone cord and hung himself.

Reyes allegedly had been having money problems over the last few months and confided to friends that he could not even afford to buy medicine for his sick wife. – Matthew Estabillo
