Drinking and politics simply do not mix.
Two fishermen in Tondo, Manila were stabbed dead after they had a heated discussion over politics with their neighbors last Wednesday.
Reports reaching the Western Police District homicide section identified the victims as Benjamin Busa, 45; and Eugenio Amora, 20; both residents of Alley 221, Isla Pulong Bato, Purok 4, Tondo and natives of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
According to reports, the victims were drinking at Alley 221 with their neighbors Perlito Bacolod, 44; and his son Ondo, also fishermen at about 5:30 p.m.
While they were drinking, the group reportedly started discussing whether President Estrada should resign or not. The suspects, reportedly got irked when the victims told them that the President should resign.
Reports said the suspects suddenly pulled out knives and started stabbing the victims. Busa was killed on the spot while Amora was rushed to the nearby Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital where he died on arrival.
Police said Bacolod also sustained a stab wound in the back after the victims wrestled the knife from him. His son, however, escaped with the bladed weapons and is now being tracked down by police. – Mike Frialde
