Abalos leads raids on jueteng dens; 8 nabbed

Mandaluyong City authorities, led by Mayor Benhur Abalos, launched simultaneous raids Monday night on suspected jueteng dens which resulted in the arrest of eight persons.

The suspects were identified as Jun Etorna, 29, Nestor Trinidad, 38, both of 1629 Malvar St., Makati; Ronald Sabay, 24, of 3009 Del Pilar St., Bangkal, Makati; Allan Penetrante, 28, of 617 Estrella St., Makati; Jing Tumbaga, 26, of 353 Garcia St., Makati; Ramon Cahilig, 38, of Aniban I, Bacoor, Cavite; Adoracion Santos, 62, of 669 Coronado St., Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City; and Dolores Sta. Ana, 35, of 42 Blackside St., Barangay Vergara, Mandaluyong City.

Superintendent Jose Gentiles, Mandaluyong City police chief, said that six of the suspects were arrested while on board a jeep (VAC 791).

A team led by SPO1 Felipe Lim, blocked their path along Coronado Street, Barangay Hulo, at about 8 p.m. The group were said to be about to transport jueteng paraphernalia and bet collections to their safehouse in Makati City where they would conduct a jueteng draw.

The two women suspects were apprehended while collecting bets. Police seized P3,946 from the suspects.

When interrogated, the suspects disclosed that their group collects as much as P23,000 daily from their area of operation in the city.

Also last night, Abalos also led policemen in raiding a karaoke bar on Shaw Boulevard.

His people found that 25 women working in the bar did not have work permits.
