6 jueteng collectors in M’luyong fall

Six alleged jueteng bet collectors were arrested in Mandaluyong during a police operation Thursday night.

Nabbed were Juen Elorma 29, of Reyes St., Lucban; Nestor Trinidad, 38, of M. Malvar street; Ronaldo Sabay, 24, of Del Pilar street, Allan Soriano, 28 of Estrella street; Jing Tambaga, 26 of Garcia street, all in Makati City and Ramon Legaspi; 38 of Bacoor, Cavite.

Investigation disclosed six suspects were collared near a barangay hall in Hulo, Mandaluyong at around 7:45 p.m. when they were about to draw the winning combinations.

The police learned of the group’s activities from a resident who reported that the suspects would be meeting in the area.

When confronted by the cops, the suspects denied they were jueteng collectors. They said they were merely waiting for the person who was to lead them to the place where the draw would be held.

Police has recovered some P3,946 of bet collections and draw balls from the suspects.

Meanwhile, Interior and Local Government Secretary Alfredo Lim ordered yesterday the immediate dismissal of three Quezon City jailguards who allegedly fired their service firearms indiscriminately during a drinking session last Thursday.

Ordered dismissed were Jail Officer 3 Christo Peter Hombre, Jail Officers 1 Jasper Paje and Sonny Paragas.

Lim said the sacking of the guards should serve as a warning against other jailguards who abuse their authority. "This misbehavior amounts to conduct unbecoming of men in uniform and warrants stiffer disciplinary sanctions including dismissal from the service," Lim added.

Investigation revealed the jailguards fired their gun indiscriminately during a drinking session at the Bernardo Park of the Quezon City jail to celebrate the birthday of another jail guard.

Lim also directed Bureau of Jail Management and Penology director Aquilino Jacob to strictly enforce liquor ban in all jails. – Sheila Crisostomo and Cecille Suerte Felipe
