Wendy’s guard shoots ‘barker’ dead

A security guard of a fastfood chain shot dead a jeepney barker in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

The suspect, Orlando Tabag, of Flat Star Security Agency, immediately fled with his caliber .38 service revolver.

Charges of homicide are being readied against him as the police launched a manhunt.

Victim Jeffrey Rosario, 27, of Lot 15 Block 14, Tanglaw Subdivision, Bagong Nayon 2, Antipolo City was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians at the East Avenue Medical Center.

The victim died from a gunshot wound in his chest.

SPO4 Mar Castillo, officer-on-case, said the incident happened at about 2:35 a.m. in front of the Wendy’s outlet at the corner of Edsa and Kamias Road, Quezon City.

Investigation showed that Rosario was having a drinking session with his friends nearby when he approached Tabag, who was guarding the establishment, and asked for some ice.

The security guard refused to give him ice and told the victim that the management does not allow him to get anything from the establishment, irking the barker who badmouthed the guard.

Tabag turned his back to avoid an argument but the barker tapped him on the shoulder; and when he looked back, the barker slugged him in the mouth and he fell.

Blood oozed from the security guard’s lips and he pulled out his firearm and shot the victim in the chest. Tabag immediately escaped upon seeing the barker lying on the floor.
