Five young boys drown in QC creek during rains

- Pia Lee-Brago -
Only two of five young boys who drowned during a heavy downpour Sunday were recovered from a creek in Quezon City yesterday morning.

The already bloated bodies of Marvin Pahinagan, 11, and Gaspar Angeles, 13, both of Barangay Antipolo Samson, Quezon City were fished out by frogmen of the Philippine Coast Guard after they were found by residents of Barangay Talayan floating in a creek at 6:30 a.m.

The drowning of the young boys was not immediately reported to Barangay Chairman Rey de Jesus who sought the assistance of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Frogmen were still searching for the bodies of the three other boys identified as Raymond Villamor, 12, Ovin Creado, 10, and Jaime Gartina, 12.

It is believed that the three boys whose bodies still have to be recovered, were covered by thick mud in a portion of the creek.

Eight young boys, including the five who drowned, went to the Dario creek, which divides Barangay Masambong and Talayan at 5 p.m. and are believed to have been carried by the strong current during a heavy downpour last Sunday.

The three boys tried to save their drowning friends but they were carried away by the strong current.

Barangay officials learned about the incident late that night after the three boys informed their parents that five of their friends drowned in the creek.
