“I went to the Manila Garden Hotel, I remember, and I closed the shades and took a nap. And when I woke up, I opened those shades and saw tanks down the street. And then I turned on the TV, and the news was going crazy.
“And it had started, you know, this face-off with Marcos and people on the street. And then, I get a phone call that said, ‘You cannot... We can’t get you out now. Just sit tight. The film is canceled, but we’ll get you home when we can.’
“So I was there. I had never been in the Philippines before at that point. So eventually, Robert Richardson, the DP, and I went out and were on the streets, and we were there in the blockade of Camp Aguinaldo.
“And that was crazy, also because a lot of Westerners had been kicked out by that time. So when the Filipino people saw Western people supporting their efforts, they were very sweet. So they were like, ‘The world is watching.’ That was very sweet. And I saw the power of the people.”

Inoperahan siya noong May, sumailalim sa lymph node surgery in June and chemotherapy noong July 31.
Sa huling checkup ni Will last month, doctors confirmed he is completely cancer-free.
Last Sept. 29, ni-reveal ni Will sa Good Morning America ang kanyang secret cancer battle. “This summer, I had testicular cancer. The diagnosis was a shock and the treatments were a slog. I’m so sorry to all of my loved ones who are dropping everything to be with me throughout this whole thing.
“I wanted to ignore it until it went away, but it didn’t. And at my wife’s (Amanda Dubin) urging, I went for an ultrasound. The images confirmed the unfathomable — I had a mass that had to come out via orchiectomy. I would be getting my testicle removed.
“The mass was 95 percent embryonal carcinoma — an aggressive, fast-growing type of cancerous tumor.
“I want folks to know that this is a thing that can happen. It’s shocking, it’s weird, it’s slightly awkward to talk about just because of what we’re really discussing here. But you end up OK, almost always.”
Isa ring news correspondent si Will for ABC World News Tonight. Dati siyang ESPN correspondent and host of The MSG Hockey Show.
